Beauty in the Making 5 x 8: Angus Hyland
Angus Hyland describes the process and progress of his new publishing project. Inspired by the aesthetic and symbolist movements, The Purple Book (referencing Aubrey Beardsley's Yellow Book) takes the form of a compendium of existing artworks and newly commissioned illustration around texts such as those by Edgar Allen Poe, Christina Rosetti, James Joyce and George Bataille.
Angus Hyland is a graduate of the RCA and a partner at Pentagram Design London. In 2001 Hyland was the co-curator with Roanne Bell of "Picture This", a British Council exhibition featuring the work of London illustrators and in 2011 he released the book Symbol with Steven Bateman.
This talk was part of a week-long series of talks curated by It's Nice That. It was commissioned by GFSmith for their Beauty in the Making exhibition in April 2012. The 5x8 series featured five talks, all eight minutes long, every evening throughout the week-long exhibition.
